80s in aspen

'Twas the night before reading day... and all through Athens...

Every Alpha Chi was celebrating... not an exam in sight...

Traditionally the December date night coincides with the culmination of the Date Night Chairman's reign as well as that year's executive board and the event is a celebration of all our leaders have accomplished over the year. I am thrilled to announce that I will be remaining as Date Night Chair for the 2020 school year. I have learned a lot this year and am excited to learn from my mistakes and continue my momentum from this past year.

Typically December date nights are Christmas themed where everyone dons tacky sweaters and their most festive Christmas attire. This year I wanted to mix things up a bit and I chose to do an 80s in Aspen event. Many guests, including myself, dug through their parents' closets to find authentic 80s ski wear for the event.

I wish I could say the event went off without a hitch however, no matter how hard I try nothing ever goes according to plan. A week before the event the venue I had booked backed out and I was left to think on my feet to find a new venue so last minute. After calling and emailing what seemed like every event space in Athens I finally was able to find a space that was available that evening. I rented Live Wire Athens, a large event space in downtown Athens. I definitely had to come up with a solution quickly and explore all possible avenues so that the event could still happen.

Once I confirmed the location and time change I reached out to the DJ and photographer to make them aware of the changes and confirm with them that they were still available. Luckily they both were available and the rest of the evening went off without a hitch. I used DJ Wildphyre, whom I had worked with before from Crescent Moon Entertainment. Recently I learned about a new photography company in Athens, Flash Photo Services. Flash Photography is a team of student photographers in Athens that allows photographers to build their portfolios while being affordable.

I am extremely pleased with how my final date night of 2019 turned out and am excited about our 2020 calendar. I am thankful for the knowledge and skill this experience has brought me and I cannot wait to see what next semester brings.
