spring formal 2019
Springtime in Athens is considered one of the most exciting times of the year. While football fans may disagree, sorority girls around campus are buzzing with anticipation about formal. In laymen's terms formal is considered "college prom" complete with black-tie ensembles, dancing till your feet go numb, and a night to remember for years to come. Formal plans had been in the works for over a semester and when I stepped into this role it was up to me to solidify the venue, pick catering, hire a band, find a photographer, and make sure everyone had the best night of their lives.

Before formal members and guests gather at the Alpha Chi Omega house to take photos with one another and spend time together before the event. I hired photographer Connor Pickett, a now-graduated University of Georgia student to photograph the event at the house as well as at the venue.
If you are familiar with Athens you know that the Georgia Theatre is the most iconic building in town and is often used to host concerts, screen football games, and yes, sorority formals. Since the theater is such a desirable location I had to secure the venue for our date in late March as early as possible. Once the theatre was booked I then worked one-on-one with the manager to choose catering for the evening. Additionally, I worked with my contact at Crescent Moon Entertainment to hire musical entertainment. We ended up deciding upon an 80s cover band, Mighty McFly to play formal. The band was amazing and knew exactly how to perform for a crowd and brought up multiple people, including myself to sing "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, which coincidentally is a song we sing during recruitment.
I would consider formal to be an immense success. The night went off without a hitch and attendees thoroughly enjoyed the night. I am extremely excited to work with the Georgia Theatre again for next Spring's formal and am hopeful for another amazing event in 2020.
